With a name like The Golden Phoenix, it's anyone's guess that this is no ordinary cupcake.

At a staggering £645, this is the world's most expensive cupcake.

The treat, which is on sale in Dubai's Bloomsbury's Cupcakes store, is made from the finest chocolate and wrapped in edible gold.

It is certainly a sweet fix for those whose sweet tooth is stronger than their common sense.

The dessert boasts a whole 23 carats of edible gold sheets, Doves organic flour from the United Kingdom, Rachel's organic butter, Premium Amedei Porcelena cocoa from Italy, and gold Ugandan high-quality vanilla beans.

The Golden Phoenix was unveiled on a Villari 24-carat gold plated Maria Antoinette Princess Tea Trolley and presented on 24 carat gold painted Empire Morning Cake Stand to eager pastry enthusiasts.

Shafeena Yusuff Ali, founder of Bloomsbury's Cupcakes, announced her intention to make the world's most expensive cupcake early last month and spent weeks perfecting the taste of the recipe and décor of the cupcake as well as carefully finalising the five expensive ingredients.

Ali said: 'Our aim is to redefine the cupcakes in the Gulf, why can’t a cupcake taste as good as it looks and look as good as it tastes'.

But she faced a Twitter backlash when the cake was released, with some users branding her creation as 'pointless' and 'ugly'.

'Sorry you feel that way! I was making an honest effort to create something amazing!' the amateur chef tweeted in response.

Vinay Lall, General Manager of Tablez Food Company, Bloomsbury's parent company, said: 'We have seen people attempt the most expensive cupcakes before, however those cupcakes are not edible as they are incrusted with diamonds and other components.'
