Default how long will cupcakes keep fresh

i always have trouble knowing how long cupcakes will keep.

i know when possible i always make them the night before so they are at their best but sometimes that is not possible.

so if i were to make cupcakes, frost them and box them how long could i expect them to keep?

Default if the frosting isn't perishable, count on a couple of days

Of course, they do tend to dry out, they are best kept in a box or enclosure you can seal, if you have a "cupcake keeper" carrier box for this purpose, or a big enough plastic container made by Tupperware or one of its imitators. The manager of Butter Lane Cupcakes in NYC recommends keeping them in the microwave (if you can go a couple of days without turning on the microwave). I've kept some nearly a week, in a bakery box, but they were _really_ dry by the time the end of the week approached.
